No bot in the call
An AI note taker that never joins the call
Trippi Notes team · facts checked on 2026-10-01
A bot is a new person in the room. People notice it, hosts block it, and some companies ban it. Trippi Notes does not join the meeting at all. It listens to the meeting tab in your Chrome, the same sound you hear, and writes it down.
Bot vs no bot
| Bot note taker | Trippi Notes | |
|---|---|---|
| Shows up in the participant list | Yes | No |
| Needs the host to admit it | Often | No |
| Needs access to your calendar | Usually | No |
| Joins meetings you forgot about | Can happen | Never: you start it with a click |
| Works when you are a guest | Only if admitted | Yes |
| Works in the desktop app | Yes | No: browser only |
The last row is the price of no bot, and we would rather tell you now. Zoom and Teams both run in the browser; if your company makes you use the desktop app, Trippi Notes cannot hear it.
Hosts are also getting better at keeping bots out. Microsoft Teams now detects many external bots and holds them in the lobby by default (Microsoft Learn). If you are a guest in someone else’s meeting, a bot may simply never get in. More on that in how hosts stop note-taker bots.
What you get after the call
- Transcript with the speaker’s name and the time on every line.
- Summary in the template you choose: overview, decisions, tasks with owners, open questions. There are templates for a sales call, an interview, a stand-up, a one-on-one, a retro and a customer interview, or you write your own request.
- Follow-up email drafted for you; you send it from your own mail.
- Your language. 68 languages for speech, and a second line in your language if the call was in another one.
- A journal of all your meetings, with search, and questions you can ask across all of them. Ask AI about one meeting and the answer quotes the lines, which jump to the moment.
- Tasks to Linear, Jira or Asana, export to Markdown or plain text, and a way to ask Claude about your meetings through MCP.
How it works
- 1Open the meeting in Chrome. Google Meet, Zoom in the browser, or Microsoft Teams in the browser.
- 2Click the Trippi Notes icon. That click lets it hear this tab, and only this tab.
- 3Open the summary when the call ends. Transcript, summary, tasks and a follow-up email draft are in your journal.
Chrome needs that one click. We cannot start on our own, and that is the point: nothing listens unless you asked it to. There is no calendar connection, so there is nothing that could join a meeting you forgot about.
When a bot is still the better tool
Be fair to the bots: they have real strengths. A bot works in the desktop apps and on a phone call into the meeting, because it is a participant on the server side. It keeps working if your laptop goes to sleep. And it can join a meeting you are not in at all, which Trippi Notes never does: no tab, no notes.
If those things matter more to you than a clean participant list, use a bot and tell people about it. If you mostly join calls in the browser, often as a guest, and your calls are not always in English, a tab-based note taker fits better.
Is it fair to the others?
No bot does not mean secret. Say at the start that you are taking notes. Here is a one-line message you can paste in the chat, in ten languages. If someone objects, stop.
Honest limits
Trippi Notes is a Chrome extension for a computer (Chrome and other Chromium browsers). It works on Google Meet, Zoom in the browser and Microsoft Teams in the browser, not in the desktop apps and not on a phone. It hears the meeting tab, so it writes what the others say and what you hear; your own microphone is not part of the transcript. It turns speech into text and does not keep the audio.
FAQ
Asked about this.
Will other people see that I use Trippi Notes?+
No bot appears in the participant list. Still, tell people you take notes: it is good manners and in some places the law. See AI note taker consent.
Does it need my calendar?+
No. It starts only when you click its icon in the meeting tab.
Does it work in the Zoom or Teams app?+
No. Open the meeting in Chrome instead; both Zoom and Teams run in the browser.
Does it work when I am only a guest?+
Yes. It hears your tab, so it does not need the host to admit anything.
Is my own voice in the transcript?+
No. It hears the sound of the tab, which is the other people. Your microphone is not captured.
