Meeting transcripts
Translate a meeting transcript into your language
Trippi Notes team · facts checked on 2026-10-01
The call was in Japanese. Your notes need to be in English, or the other way round. You can copy the transcript into a translator after the call, or you can have both languages on the page while the call is still going.
What the built-in transcripts can do
| Languages it transcribes | Translates the transcript | Who gets the file | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Meet | 8, on paid Workspace editions only (Google) | No. Translated captions are live only, on some paid editions (Google) | The organizer’s Drive |
| Zoom | 19 for cloud recording transcripts; English unless the host changes it (Zoom) | No. Translated captions are live, on Business Plus and up or an add-on (Zoom) | The host |
| Teams | Dozens of spoken languages (Microsoft) | With Teams Premium on the organizer’s licence (Microsoft) | Organizer and co-organizers download |
| Trippi Notes | 68 | Yes, a second line under every line | You |
Checked on 1 October 2026 against each platform’s help pages. Details per platform: Teams, Zoom, Google Meet.
Two things stand out. Each platform’s transcript is in the spoken language, and translation, where it exists, is a paid live feature rather than a translated file. And the file goes to the person who ran the meeting, so if you were a guest you may not have anything to translate.
Option 1: translate after the call
- 1Get the file. Download the transcript from the platform: .docx or .vtt from Teams, .vtt from a Zoom cloud recording, a Docs file from Google Meet.
- 2Clean it. Turn a .vtt into plain text with the VTT to text tool, so the translator does not chew through timing lines.
- 3Translate it. Paste it into a translator, or into ChatGPT or Claude with a prompt that keeps names and times.
- 4Ask for the minutes. In the same chat, ask for minutes in the language you need.
A prompt that works for step 3:
Translate this meeting transcript into English. Keep speaker names and times. Do not shorten. Where a sentence is unclear in the original, mark it with [?] instead of guessing. [paste the transcript]
Then ask for the minutes. Our transcript to minutes tool writes that prompt for you, and meeting minutes in English shows the format people expect. More prompts: ChatGPT and Claude.
This works when you have the file, which usually means you were the organizer. Long transcripts may need to go in parts.
Option 2: both languages while the call is on
Trippi Notes listens to the meeting tab in Chrome and, with translation turned on, writes each line twice: what was said, and what it means in your language. Translation is off until you tick it on the language bar, because in a call in your own language a second line is noise. People who switch languages in the middle of a call are fine; the language you set is a hint, not a lock.
After the call, the summary is written in your language, with decisions and tasks. The original stays in the transcript, so you can check a translated sentence against the source.
It works with Google Meet, and with Zoom and Teams in the browser. No bot joins the call. Still, tell people you are taking notes. It is good manners, and in some places it is the law: AI note taker consent.
A line looks like this
Kenji, 10:42 — 来週までに見積もりを送ります。
I will send the quote by next week.
In the summary that becomes a task: Kenji, send the quote, next week. The Japanese line is still there if someone asks what exactly he promised.
When machine translation is not enough
- Contracts and numbers. Check every figure, date and name against the original line. Live speech recognition can mishear a number before the translation even starts.
- Terms of your trade. Add product names and jargon to the glossary, so they are spelled the same way in every line and in the summary.
- Minutes for people who were not there. Send minutes, not a translated transcript. Nobody reads an hour of lines; they read decisions and owners. Use the meeting minutes template.
Trippi Notes for calls in two languages
68 speech languages, a translation line under every line, and a summary by template in your language — overview, decisions, tasks with owners, open questions and a glossary. Ask AI about the meeting and get answers with quotes from the original. Export as Markdown or plain text, or open the meeting in ChatGPT or Claude.
FAQ
Asked about this.
Is the translation exact?+
It is machine translation of live speech. Good for meaning, not for a contract. For a quote you plan to use, check the original line.
Which language is the summary written in?+
In your language: the one you translate into. If translation is off, the summary follows the language of your browser.
Can Teams translate a transcript?+
Live translated transcription is a Teams Premium feature, and the organizer needs the licence. Without it, the transcript stays in the spoken language.
Does Google Meet transcribe Spanish?+
Yes. Meet transcribes eight languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, on paid Workspace editions.
What if people switch languages mid-call?+
Trippi Notes copes: the language you set is a hint, not a lock, and each line is translated into your language.
