A desktop app, or a tab

Fathom’s help says it records meetings on Mac and Windows computers, and not on Chromebooks, Linux, phones or tablets (what devices Fathom supports). Its bot-free capture is part of the Mac experience; on Windows the bot is the way for now.

Trippi Notes is a Chrome extension. It runs in Chrome or another Chromium browser on a Windows, Mac or Linux computer, and there is nothing to install beyond the extension. It hears the meeting tab after you click its icon and joins nothing. No bot does not mean secret. Tell people at the start that you take AI notes: what to say and a line to paste in the chat.

The flip side: Fathom works with the Zoom and Teams desktop clients, and Trippi Notes does not. If your company runs Teams only in the desktop app, open the meeting in the browser or pick Fathom.

Translation is the other difference

Fathom transcribes 38 languages and can translate a summary between six of them: Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Italian and Dutch (languages). That is a real feature, and it covers many European teams.

Trippi Notes recognizes 68 languages and shows a translation line in your language under each line during the call, not only in the summary afterwards. If the call is in Japanese and you read English, you follow it as it happens.

What Fathom does better

  • Video. Fathom keeps video recording, clips and playlists to share highlights. Trippi Notes keeps text only.
  • Sales teams. Fathom’s Business plan syncs CRM fields to Salesforce and HubSpot, with deal view and coaching scorecards. Trippi Notes has no CRM sync.
  • Desktop clients. Fathom covers desktop Zoom and Teams. Trippi Notes covers only the browser versions.
  • Your own voice. Fathom captures the whole call. Trippi Notes hears the tab, so your own microphone is not in the transcript.

Price

Fathom Premium is $16 a month billed yearly, or $20 month to month; team plans start at $15 a user a month billed yearly, with two users minimum. Trippi Notes is $6, $12 or $24 a month for 10, 25 or 70 hours of meetings. Team plans start with Team S for up to five people.

Trippi Notes, with its limits

A Chrome extension for a computer. Click its icon in a Google Meet, Zoom or Teams tab in the browser, and it writes the transcript with names and times, a translation line in your language, then a summary, tasks with owners and a follow-up email draft. It does not join the call, keep audio or video, work in desktop apps or on a phone, or start from your calendar. Your own microphone is not in the transcript.
