Daily standup template

Trippi Notes team · facts checked on 2026-10-01

A stand-up is short, so the notes must be shorter. This template has one block per person and one table for blockers, because a blocker without a name next to it is just a complaint.

The template

Copy it into any editor that understands Markdown. The headings and the table come through as they are.

For Word or Google Docs

The same template as plain text. Paste it into a new document, then turn the first line and the section names into headings if you like. There is no file to download: you paste it, and it is yours.

What each part is for

One block per person

People, not themes. It is easy to see who has said nothing for three days.

Done / Next / Blocked by

One line each. "Working on the API" is not a line; "API auth done, starting rate limits" is.

Blockers

Who is blocked and who can help. This is the only part anyone reads later.

Parked

Topics that need more than a minute. Write them here and talk after the stand-up, with only the people who need to be there.

You do not have to use three questions. The Scrum Guide calls the Daily Scrum a 15-minute event and says the developers "can select whatever structure and techniques they want", as long as it focuses on progress toward the goal and produces a plan for the next day. Done / Next / Blocked is simply the structure most teams fall back to.

How to fill it in five minutes

  1. 1Before: Copy yesterday’s blocker table. Each blocker is either still there or crossed out.
  2. 2During: One line for done, one for next, one for blocked. Stop anyone who starts solving a problem and park it.
  3. 3Blockers get two names: Who is blocked, and who can help. If nobody can help, that goes to the team lead today.
  4. 4After: Post it in the team channel within five minutes. Nobody reads stand-up notes that arrive at lunch.

A filled example

Stand-up — Payments — 6 Oct 2026

Ana — Done: refund flow tests. Next: fix two flaky tests. Blocked by: nothing.
Bruno — Done: API auth. Next: rate limits. Blocked by: staging keys.
Kenji — Done: nothing new, on support. Next: release notes. Blocked by: nothing.

Blockers
Staging keys — Bruno — Lea (ops)

Parked
- Do we split the release? Ana, Bruno, Lea after the stand-up.

Let it fill itself

This is the same shape Trippi Notes uses for its Daily stand-up summary. Trippi Notes listens to the meeting tab in Chrome — Google Meet, Zoom in the browser or Microsoft Teams in the browser — after one click on its icon, and writes the transcript with speaker names and times. After the call you pick the Daily stand-up template and build the summary with one click. The template tells it to look for what each person finished, what they do next and what blocks them, with blockers listed under the name of whoever is blocked, and it is told to stay short. The result comes back in the usual parts — overview, decisions, tasks with owners, open questions — in your language, even if the call was in another one.

From there you copy it into this layout, export it as Markdown or plain text, or ask a question about the meeting and get quotes that jump to the moment. Tasks can go to Linear, Jira or Asana.

Summary templates other than the general one, and your own request, are part of the paid plans. It only hears calls in the browser, not desktop apps or phones. Nothing joins the call, so nobody sees a bot in the list of people. Tell them you are taking notes anyway — how to ask.

FAQ

Asked about this.

Do stand-ups need written notes?+

Only the blockers, really. But one line per person makes it obvious when someone is stuck for days without saying so.

How long should a stand-up take?+

The Scrum Guide sets 15 minutes for the Daily Scrum. Many teams finish in less.

Who should take stand-up notes?+

Rotate it, or let a tool write the draft. The person leading the stand-up should not also be typing.

What about remote teams in different languages?+

Write the notes in the team’s working language. Trippi Notes can translate each line of the call into your language while people talk.
