Meeting transcripts

Does Google Meet transcribe meetings? Yes, with conditions

Trippi Notes team · facts checked on 2026-10-17

Short answer: Google Meet can transcribe a meeting, and on some editions it can write notes with Gemini. Long answer: only on paid Workspace editions, only when someone in the meeting turns it on, and the file goes to the organizer’s Drive, not to you.

What Meet does

  • Transcripts. On eligible Workspace editions a participant can open Meeting tools and start transcription. The document lands in the organizer’s Drive after the call.
  • Notes with Gemini. Some editions can write notes during the meeting. Again, the output belongs to the organizer’s account.
  • Captions. Live captions are available in all editions, in several languages, but they are not kept.

What it does not do for you

  • Work on a personal Gmail account: transcription needs a paid Workspace edition.
  • Give the transcript to a guest: the file goes to the organizer.
  • Translate a line under each line in your language. Translated captions exist on some editions, live only.
  • Follow you to Zoom or Teams. Each platform has its own rules.

A transcript that is yours, on any account

Trippi Notes writes the transcript in your browser tab, after your click, on any Meet call you can open in Chrome, including calls from a personal account and calls where you are a guest. Names, times, your own microphone, and a translation line if you want one. After the call: a summary, tasks, a follow-up draft, and a journal with search. Tell people you are taking notes; a sentence at the start is enough. What to say.

How to start

  1. 1Open the call in Chrome. Google Meet, Zoom in the browser, or Teams in the browser.
  2. 2Click the Trippi Notes icon. From that click it hears the meeting tab and your microphone, and writes each line with the speaker’s name.
  3. 3Read along, or read it after. The lines appear as people speak. After the call you get a summary, tasks and a follow-up draft.

What Trippi Notes adds on Google Meet

A live transcript with names in 68 languages, an optional translation line, a summary by template, tasks, a follow-up email draft, and the same on Zoom and Teams in the browser. It does not keep the audio and does not join the call.
