Meeting transcripts

Which languages can Meet, Zoom and Teams transcribe?

Trippi Notes team · facts checked on 2026-10-01

Each platform publishes its own language list, in its own help centre, and the lists change without notice. We put them in one table, checked on 1 October 2026, with links to the source pages. “Transcript” here means text you can keep after the call; live captions are shown separately, because they disappear when the call ends.

Sources, checked on 1 October 2026: Google Meet transcripts, March 2025 language update and live captions; Zoom cloud-recording transcripts and automated captions; Microsoft Teams live transcription and Microsoft Learn. Trippi Notes: the language list inside the extension, 68 entries. We re-check the table every month.

How to read the table

  • Saved transcript. A file or document you can open after the call. Meet writes it into the organizer’s Drive, Zoom next to the host’s cloud recording, Teams next to the meeting in the organizer’s storage.
  • Live captions. Subtitles during the call. Teams does not save them (Microsoft Learn), and Zoom stopped saving them in May 2026 (Zoom Support). They help you follow a call; they do not give you notes.
  • Beta. Google marks many caption languages beta. Expect them to work, with more mistakes than the main languages.
  • Zoom’s meeting transcript. Since May 2026 Zoom also has an in-meeting transcript that the host turns on (Zoom Support). Its help page does not publish a language list, so it has no column here rather than a guess.
  • “No — what to do”. Where a platform cannot transcribe a language that Trippi Notes can, the cell links to a page about that exact pair.

What the table does not show

  • Plans. A “Yes” rarely means “for everyone”. Meet transcripts need a paid Workspace edition; Zoom’s cloud-recording transcript needs a Pro, Business, Education or Enterprise account; Teams transcription has to be allowed by the organisation’s policy (Microsoft Learn).
  • Who gets the file. The transcript belongs to the organizer or host. A guest from another company usually cannot download it. Per platform: Google Meet, Zoom, Teams.
  • Translation. All three translate captions live on higher plans, and Teams Premium also translates the transcript. None of them gives a guest a translated file. See translate a meeting transcript.
  • Accuracy. A “Yes” says the language is supported, not how well a fast, noisy call with three accents comes out. We did not measure accuracy and do not rank anyone on it.
  • Mixed languages. Platforms ask for one spoken language. Calls where people switch to English mid-sentence are common, and they are where every system makes more mistakes.

Pages for each missing language

Each page below covers one platform and one language it cannot transcribe: what the platform does offer, what people try instead, and how to get a transcript in that language from the browser.

Where Trippi Notes fits

Trippi Notes is a Chrome extension. Open the call in the browser — Google Meet, or Zoom and Teams in the browser — and click the icon; from that click it hears the meeting tab and writes each line with the speaker’s name and the time, in any of its 68 speech languages. A translation line in your language is one tick away, and after the call you get a summary by template, tasks with owners and a follow-up email draft. It does not work in the desktop apps, and it does not cover Cantonese. No bot joins the call. Still, tell people you are taking notes. It is good manners, and in some places it is the law: AI note taker consent.

FAQ

Asked about this.

Which platform transcribes the most languages?+

Among transcripts you can keep after the call, Teams has the longest list: dozens of spoken languages and regional variants. Zoom’s cloud-recording transcript covers 19 languages and Google Meet’s transcript covers eight. Meet and Zoom show live captions in many more languages, but captions are not a saved file.

Why does Meet caption Hebrew but not transcribe it?+

Google keeps two separate lists. Live captions cover dozens of languages, many marked beta, and are shown during the call. Saved transcripts are limited to English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.

How often is this table checked?+

Once a month against the official help pages linked above. The date at the top of the page is the last check: 1 October 2026.

Does Trippi Notes support Cantonese?+

No. Cantonese is not in its list of 68 speech languages. Mandarin is, and the translation line can be in simplified or traditional characters.

Do the built-in transcripts need a paid plan?+

Usually. Meet transcripts need a paid Workspace edition, Zoom’s cloud-recording transcript needs a Pro account or higher, and Teams transcription depends on your organisation’s policy. Details: Meet, Zoom, Teams.
