Security at Trippi Notes: the path of your data, step by step
Trippi Notes team · facts checked on 2026-10-30
Short answer: the extension hears one browser tab after your click, streams the audio to a speech-recognition provider over an encrypted connection and keeps no recording. The text lives in your browser and, when you are signed in, in a meeting archive on our server that you can turn off, shorten or delete. A summary or an answer sends the text of that meeting to a language-model provider for that one request. Nothing joins the call, nothing reads other tabs, nothing is sold or used to train a model. Facts checked on 2026-10-30; the privacy policy is the binding text.
1. What the extension can reach
- One tab, after a click. Chrome gives an extension the audio of a tab only through the activeTab permission, which needs your click on the icon in that tab, every time. It cannot start on its own and cannot hear any other tab.
- Your microphone, if you allow it. Asked once, on the first start, on the extension’s own page. It is mixed with the tab so that your own words are in the transcript. You can switch it off in the settings.
- Not the screen, not the chat. Slides, shared documents and the meeting chat do not reach it. It works from sound only.
- The permissions it asks for. tabCapture, offscreen, storage, activeTab, scripting and identity, and one host permission: our own API. You can read the same list on the store page before you install.
2. Where the audio goes
The audio is streamed from your browser to our speech-recognition provider over an encrypted connection and turned into text as it arrives. It is not recorded or stored, by the provider on our behalf or by us. Each session uses a short-lived key that our server issues for that one session, so a leaked key is worth nothing an hour later.
If the translation line is on, each finished line goes through our server to a machine-translation provider and comes back translated. It is not written to our database or our logs.
3. Where the text lives
| What | Where | For how long |
|---|---|---|
| Transcript, summaries, tasks | Your browser’s local storage | Until you delete them or remove the extension |
| Meeting archive (when signed in, on by default) | Our server | 30, 90, 180 or 365 days, your choice; 90 by default |
| A link to one meeting, if you make one | Our server | 30 days by default, at most a year; off when the archive is off |
| The address a request came from | Our server logs | At most 60 days |
| Audio or video | Nowhere | Never kept |
You can turn the archive off at any time; after that no new meeting is stored on the server. You can delete one meeting or all of them, from the journal.
4. What happens when you ask for a summary or an answer
The text of that meeting is sent to a language-model provider for that one request and the result comes back to you. The request is not written to our database or our logs. The providers are named on the privacy page; they are large, well-known model providers, and meetings are never used to train anything, by them on our behalf or by us.
Summaries, answers and emails are written by a model and can be wrong. Read them before you send them on.
5. Account and payment
- Sign-in. With Google or with a link sent to your email. There is no password to store or to leak.
- Payment. Handled by Paddle as the merchant of record. Card details never reach us.
6. What we never do
- Join a meeting, as a bot or in any other way.
- Start on a schedule or without your click.
- Keep audio or video.
- Read other tabs or your screen.
- Sell meetings or use them to train a model.
7. What we do not have
There is no SOC 2 or ISO 27001 report, and no on-premises version. If your company requires one of these, Trippi Notes is not the right tool today. If it requires a written answer to a security questionnaire, write to us and we answer it.
8. How to check
- The store page lists the permissions and the privacy practices the extension declares.
- The privacy policy is the binding text: Trippi Notes privacy policy.
- The facts page has every checkable statement on one line each: Trippi Notes in facts.
- Questions go to [email protected].
Trippi Notes, in one paragraph
A Chrome extension that writes down a Google Meet, Zoom or Teams call from your own browser tab, after your click, with no bot. Speech becomes text at a provider over an encrypted connection and the audio is not kept; the text is yours, in your browser and in an archive you control. It does not work in the desktop apps or on a phone.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does Trippi Notes record my meetings?+
No. The audio is turned into text as it arrives and is not kept, by us or by the provider. There is no audio or video file.
Who can see my transcript?+
You. When you are signed in, it is in your archive under your account. If you make a link to a meeting, anyone with that link can read that meeting until the link expires.
Can I keep everything on my computer only?+
Yes. Turn the archive off in the settings; after that new meetings stay in your browser only, and the journal on other computers will not see them.
Does it work inside a company that blocks note-taker bots?+
Usually, because there is no bot to block: it reads your own tab. Your company’s rules on extensions and on taking notes still apply; ask before you use it on calls that are not yours.
Is the connection encrypted?+
Yes. The audio stream, the translation requests and the archive all go over encrypted connections.

Notes from your own tab, nothing joins the call
Trippi Notes is in the Chrome Web Store. One click on the icon when the call begins, and nothing before that.
