Transcribe a Zoom recording to text
Trippi Notes team · facts checked on 2026-10-17
Not in Trippi Notes yet. On the roadmap.
The Zoom recording exists, and you want the text. Zoom writes a transcript of a cloud recording for the host on a paid plan; a local recording gets none, and a participant gets only what the host shares. For everyone else, the file is the starting point, and a transcript from a file is the thing Trippi Notes does not do yet, and will do next.
What Zoom gives you
Zoom writes a transcript of a cloud recording for the host on a paid plan; a local recording gets none, and a participant gets only what the host shares. The guide to who gets what: Zoom transcript.
Planned: upload the recording
Upload the Zoom file to your Trippi Notes journal and get the same transcript, summary, tasks and questions as from a live call. The file is discarded after transcription; the text stays by your retention setting. The upload, in detail.
Today: play it in a tab
- 1Open the recording in Chrome. A Zoom cloud recording opens in a browser player; a downloaded file can be opened in a Chrome tab.
- 2Click the Trippi Notes icon, press play. The transcript is written as the recording plays. It takes as long as the recording.
- 3Build the summary. Same as after a live call: template, tasks, email, questions.
Speaker names from the meeting tiles are not available from a recording; lines are separated by voice where the audio allows.
Next time: the live transcript
If you are in the Zoom meeting, you do not need the recording: Trippi Notes writes the transcript during the call, with names, from the Zoom tab in Chrome, whether or not you are the host. Live transcription.
What works today, in full
What Trippi Notes does today: a live transcript of Google Meet, Zoom and Teams calls in the browser, with speaker names and a translation line, in 68 languages; summaries by template, tasks to Jira, Asana and Linear, follow-up emails, a journal with search and questions, and an MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor. All the facts on one page.
Where this stands
Not built: uploading a Zoom recording. Built: live transcripts of Zoom calls in the browser, and the tab trick for a recording you already have.
