Messenger translates messages. It does not translate calls.

Messenger has had a translation button on written messages for years, which makes the absence on calls stranger: the moment the conversation becomes voice, the help disappears. There are no captions and no translated captions on a Messenger call, on any platform. Trippi captions the call in your browser instead.

Text is translated, speech is not

A chat thread in Messenger can be read in your own language with one tap. Start a call in the same thread and you are on your own — no captions, no transcript, no translation, nothing to fall back on when an accent or a fast speaker loses you.

Trippi fills exactly that gap and only that gap: it listens to the call playing in your tab, recognises the speech and writes the translated line underneath, leaving the call itself alone.

It works on messenger.com in a tab

Messenger runs as a full web app at messenger.com, with voice and video calls in the browser — that is where Trippi works. Calls taken inside the Facebook app, on a phone, or in the standalone desktop program are separate software an extension cannot see into.

Nothing joins the call

No extra participant, no notification, no recording banner. The subtitles are drawn in your browser only, and you can keep the recognised original line visible above the translation — the fastest way to catch a mistranslated name.

What you need to start

  • A Messenger call taken at messenger.com in Chrome or another Chromium browser.
  • No Meta subscription and no admin — the extension works from your side of the call.
  • The spoken language and your reading language, set once in the popup.
  • 20 free minutes a month, with no card and no sign-up.
