GoTo captions what was said. It does not turn it into your language.

GoTo Meeting has live captions, and they cover several spoken languages — German, Spanish, Russian, Japanese among them. That is transcription: it writes down the words in the language they were spoken in. Reading a German call in Spanish is a different feature, and GoTo does not have it. This is the gap people fall into, because the captions look like the answer right up until the first sentence appears in a language they were trying to get away from.

Transcription and translation are not the same button

A transcript helps when you already understand the language and lost a word. It does nothing when the meeting is happening in a language you do not speak, which is the situation people usually mean when they say they need captions.

Trippi does the second thing. It recognises the speech and writes the line in the language you chose, so a call held in German reads in Spanish, or Hindi, or Portuguese, while it is still going on.

It works from the browser, on either side of the call

GoTo runs in the browser for both hosts and guests, and Trippi attaches to that tab. Nothing is installed for the meeting, nothing appears in the participant list, and the organiser does not have to enable a company-wide setting for one person who needs it.

You can keep the recognised original above the translation. On a call full of product names and abbreviations, seeing both lines is what tells you whether a strange sentence is a mistranslation or something that genuinely was said.
