Telegram translates chats. Voice gets nothing.

Telegram ships a translation layer for written messages, and Premium extends it to whole chats. Voice is untouched: calls and group voice chats have no captions and no translation, on any tier. Trippi captions them from the browser tab instead.

Premium translates text, not talk

The translate button in Telegram covers messages and, with Premium, entire chats. It stops at the moment somebody presses call. Group voice chats — the format communities actually use for calls, AMAs and study rooms — have no captions either, in any language.

Trippi works from the sound: it recognises what is being said in the tab and writes your language underneath, which also works for a voice chat you are only listening to.

Telegram Web, not the desktop client

Telegram runs a full client at web.telegram.org that places calls and joins voice chats in an ordinary browser tab. That is what Trippi captions. The installed desktop app and the phone app are separate programs, outside the reach of any browser extension.

Listening in a big voice chat

A community voice chat can run for hours with speakers in several languages. Trippi captions whichever language is being spoken into the language you chose, and can keep the recognised original above it. It does not label speakers: Telegram does not expose who is talking to the page the way a meeting platform does.

What you need to start

• A call or voice chat joined at web.telegram.org, in Chrome or another Chromium browser.
• No Premium subscription — the extension is on your side of the call.
• The spoken language and your reading language, set once in the popup.
