Translate a Teams recording — in your language.

Teams can translate a recording. Only the owner of the file can make it happen.

This is the one case in the group where translation genuinely exists — and stays out of reach anyway. A Teams recording can get a translated transcript through Syntex, billed per million characters, or through Teams Premium. Both are started by whoever owns the file, and both depend on transcription having been running during the meeting, which is off by default. If you were sent a link to a recording of a meeting you missed, there is no button on your side, and asking the owner to buy a licence for one video is not a real option.

A link is not permission to configure anything

Sharing a recording gives you the right to watch it, not to run services against it. Everything Microsoft offers for translating that video sits with the file’s owner and their tenant’s licensing, which is exactly the wrong place when the person who needs the translation is a guest, a contractor or a colleague in another region.

Trippi does not touch the file. It plays in your browser, translates the audio as it goes, and leaves the recording, the tenant and the owner’s settings untouched.

It does not need the meeting transcript

The usual blocker is that transcription was never switched on during the call, which leaves nothing to translate afterwards — no amount of licensing fixes a transcript that was never made.

Because Trippi recognises the audio at playback time, it does not care. A recording with no transcript at all works exactly like one that has a perfect transcript in a language you do not read.
