At a meeting about your child, you should not have to guess.

The teacher talks about grades, reading level, homework and friends. They often speak fast and use school words like “benchmark”, “intervention” or “IEP”. Many parents understand some English and still miss the part that matters. Asking your child to translate puts them in the middle of a talk about themselves. Trippi shows what the teacher says on your screen while they say it, and puts a translation into your language under each line, so you can follow the meeting yourself.

What you see on the screen

• The teacher’s words in English, line by line, as they speak. This is useful even if your English is good: you can check a word you did not catch.
• A translation into your language under each line. You choose the language, and you can change it at any time.
• A history you can scroll back. If you missed a sentence, it is still there. After the meeting the text stays in your browser, and you can save it to read again or show to another family member.
• Only you see it. Nothing joins the meeting, no bot appears in the list of people, and the teacher does not need to do anything.

What you need

• A computer with Windows, macOS or ChromeOS, and the Chrome or Microsoft Edge browser. Trippi does not work on phones or tablets.
• The meeting in a browser tab, not in the Zoom or Teams app. Trippi listens to the sound of the tab, so the app on your computer is out of its reach.
• Your language on the list. Trippi works with 66 languages, including Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Tagalog, Urdu, Bengali, Punjabi, Nepali, Pashto, Persian, Swahili and Korean. Some languages many families speak are not there yet: Haitian Creole, Somali, Hmong, Amharic and Burmese. If yours is one of them, ask the school for an interpreter.
• A meeting on video, not a phone call. A call to your phone number has no browser tab to read from.

When you need a real interpreter

Trippi is machine translation. It can miss a word, get a name wrong or be a second late, and it does not understand your family’s situation. It does not replace a qualified interpreter.

For an IEP or 504 meeting, a meeting about suspension or other discipline, a meeting about your child’s health, or anything legal, ask the school for an interpreter. In the United States, public schools are expected to give parents important information in a language they understand, and to provide an interpreter at no cost to the family. Ask the school office or the teacher before the meeting.

Trippi helps with everyday meetings: report card conferences, a check-in with the class teacher, a meeting for all parents, a school information evening. Even there, if something sounds important, ask the teacher to say it again or to send it in writing.

Trippi also does not speak for you. It translates what you hear, not what you say. You answer the teacher yourself, in English or through an interpreter.

If you run parent–teacher conferences online, you can send this page to families before the meeting. The family installs Trippi on their own computer. You do not install, set up or pay for anything, and nothing joins your meeting. Keep your usual interpreter for IEP, 504, discipline and health meetings.

A few things help the captions a lot: speak one person at a time, use a headset or a clear microphone, pause between points, and write names and school terms in the chat. Send the meeting link with a line that says “open it in the browser”, because that is the step families most often miss.
